Why People Skip the In-Wall Route

Fishing cable behind drywall is the cleanest look, but it means drilling, cutting holes, installing a recessed box, and patching paint. If you rent, or you just don't want the mess, there are good no-cut alternatives.

1. A Paintable Cable Raceway

A raceway is a plastic channel that sticks to the wall and holds your cables; a snap-on lid covers them. Run it straight down from the TV to a console, paint it the wall color, and it nearly disappears.

This is the most popular no-cut option. Look for one that's at least 1 inch wide so your HDMI and power fit together.

2. Cord Covers That Look Like Trim

For a more finished look, use a flat cord cover shaped like baseboard trim. It runs along the base of the wall and accepts the wires coming down from the TV. Combined with a short vertical raceway, the cables become invisible from across the room.

3. A Power-Relocation Kit (No Cut)

You still need power at the TV. A code-friendly in-wall power kit lets you plug into an existing outlet near the floor and route a power line up behind a raceway to a new outlet receptacle behind the TV — without cutting drywall. If your local code requires it, have a licensed electrician do the final connection.

4. Furniture and the Right Console

A tall media console placed directly under the TV hides the bottom of the run entirely. Run cables into the raceway, then behind the console to your devices. Choose a console with a closed back and a grommet for cables.

A Safety Note

Power cables and low-voltage HDMI cables should run in separate channels when possible, and power should never be joined by simply splicing inside the wall. Use a listed power-relocation kit so the connection stays code-compliant and safe.
