What is an NVR

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

An NVR (Network Video Recorder) is a device that records and stores video footage from IP (Internet Protocol) cameras. It is similar to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder), but instead of analog cameras, it is designed to work with IP cameras that are connected to a network.

NVRs are often used in surveillance systems to monitor and record activity in areas such as homes, businesses, or public spaces. The footage can be accessed remotely over the internet, making it a popular choice for remote monitoring and security applications.

An NVR typically includes software that manages the cameras and the video footage, allowing users to view, search, and manage recorded video. It may also include features such as motion detection, scheduled recording, and alerts that notify users of events or incidents.

One advantage of an NVR is that it can be easily expanded to accommodate additional cameras or storage capacity as needed. It can also be integrated with other security systems, such as alarms or access control systems, to provide a comprehensive security solution.
